Researchers at MIT have found an effective method of creating solar panels from old car batteries

This week, the staff at MIT (MIT) announced a new way to create high-grade solar panels from the failed car batteries that were previously considered exclusively as waste. Scientists have developed a technique for extracting lead from old batteries and use it as a main component for new solar panels. Researchers believe this method is the most environmentally friendly and economical.
known that the classical production of lead is harmful to the Earth's atmosphere, but most of today's solar cells that are based on perovskite lead needs. That is why scientists are interested in finding a safe and environmentally friendly ways of production of that item. The most reasonable solution, researchers found the use of old car batteries, because the re-use of lead contained in them avoiding additional production of lead, during which, as mentioned above, stand out harmful toxins.

Angela Belcher, MIT professor of energy and bioengineering, said that she and her colleagues have developed the most effective method for the extraction of lead from car batteries, whose essence is to disassemble the battery case and the electrode assembly.

MIT warns conduct such experiments at home can not be in any case, since it can be extremely dangerous for the life of the batteries contained poisonous substances (sulfuric acid, lead, mercury, cadmium).
